Welcome to Ms. Crawford's Class Page
Dear Linsday Families,
My name is Traci Crawford and this is my fourth year teaching in the Young Fives Program for the Bay City Public School District. Although I am new to the Linsday Staff this year, I have quickly discovered that Linsday Elementary is a wonderful place to teach and a wonderful place to learn! I feel very privileged to be a part of the school community here at Linsday Elementary. I also look forward to an exciting year of wonderful growth and amazing possibilities with the Linsday Young Fives this year! I truly feel that the Young Fives Program is an amazing opportunity and is very important as it gives children extra time to learn and grow academically, socially, and behaviorally. The work that we accomplish during the school year will help each and every child within the classroom to become a confident and successful Kindergartner.
The Young Fives Program is a very active and hands-on environment where students learn how to interact with one another, solve problems, and build confidence in themselves and their abilities.
During the course of the year students will be introduced to beginning math skills as well as developing early literacy skills. Many of the skills the students practice will include whole group instruction and activities as well as centers designed for independent and guided practice of new concepts.
Some of the literacy skills the students will work on throughout the course of school year are:
· Alphabet recognition
· The sounds the letters of the alphabet make
· Writing their first and last name with a model
· Listening to and responding to literature
· Writing and drawing for a purpose
· Rhyming
Some of the math skills the students will work on throughout the course of school year are:
· Color and shape recognition
· Number recognition
· Number value
· Oral counting
· Sorting
· Patterning
· One-to-one matching
Other skills the students will work on throughout the course of school year are:
· Listening to and following directions
· Building oral language
· Large muscle coordination
· Small muscle coordination
· Self-help skills
· Pencil and scissor grip
I hope that you have enjoyed your visit to our classroom website. Please continue to watch for classroom newsletters sent home with your child to read more about detailed classroom happenings and center activities.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. I will be happy to schedule a time to meet with you in order to discuss your child’s progress or answer any questions that you may have about the Young Fives Program. You can reach me at Linsday Elementary. The school phone number is 989-684-0692. You can also send me an e-mail at crawfordt@bcschools.net.

Traci Crawford
